Blast!  Digimon Chronicle is an actual thing.  I totally forgot about it - and with good reason.  It wasn't very good - quite forgettable, really.

But that also means I can't use that name for my fanfic, as it would imply a connection to that series... and yes, I know, I'm behind... there's various reasons for it, just... gimme some time.  Gonna try to make a buffer while I'm at it so this kind of thing doesn't happen too often.  Anywho, I'll be off trying to come up with a new name.  If any of y'all have some suggestions, I'm all ears.

As I'm sure many of you are aware by now, the terms I use in Digimon Chronicle don't follow many of the typical conventions in digimon, though they do tend to follow the spirit of it a bit.  I also don't use dub terms - instead opting for sub terms.  This isn't because I hate the dub - Digimon's dub jobs are actually pretty good, and I usually put them on-par with the subs (at least for the first three series - after that, the dub started changing stuff for no good reason).

The main reason I use sub terms instead of dub terms is for consistancy.  The dub names are sometimes... very odd in what they do.  For example, is it Panjyamon, or IceLeomon?  Yes.  Is it Golemon, or Rockmon?  Yes.  Both names apply to the same digimon, and anyone who's seen the dub of Adventure 02 knows what I'm talking about - they called him Golemon, while the status sheet said Rockmon.  There's many examples of this inconsistancy, and that can just lead to annoying confusion.  As such, I use sub names for mons and terms.

Speaking of, here's a list of some terms you'll want to keep in mind, and what they mean (and what the dub equivilant might be).  Note that this is not a comprehensive list - more will be added in time, as new things are introduced.

Baby - refers to both Baby 1 (fresh) and Baby II (In-training) stages of digimon.
Child - refers to the Child (rookie) stage of digimon.
Adult - refers to the Adult (champion) stage of digimon.
Perfect - refers to the Perfect (Ultimate) stage of digimon.
Ultimate - refers to the Ultimate (Mega) stage of digimon.
Burst - refers to a digimon in a burst stage, mode change, or similar state.  Higher than Ultimate in power, but not high enough to be Super Ultimate (Ultra), which will not be reached (since there's like, only 3 digimon of that stage).

Evolution - the act of a digimon going from a lower to a higher stage (Digivolution).  Still applies when stages are skipped.
Natural Evolution - when evolution occurs natrually.  Akin to 'growing up' in human terms. (Natural Digivolution)
Blessing Evolution - when evolution occurs artificially through human interaction.  Blessing evolution does not necessarily grant the same path as Natural Evolution, and is always temporary.  Once Blessing Evolution's duration ends, the digimon will revert to the stage they were at prior to evolution, though if enough energy was used up, they may degenerate further.  (Blessing Digivolution)
Degeneration - the act of being reduced to a lower evolutionary stage.
Cross-Blessing Evolution - the act of a digimon increasing it's evolutionary stage by using a blessing not native to them (ex:  Chieko uses her blessing to evolve Soren). (Cross-Blessing Digivolution)
Slide Evolution - the act of a digimon going from being a digimon of one stage, to another digimon of the same stage, either through Cross-blessing evolution, or a Mode Change style evolution that doesn't send them into the Burst stage. (Slide Digivolution)
Burst Evolution - the act of transcending the Ultimate stage into Burst stage. (Burst Digivolution)
Jogress Evolution -  when two digimon fuse to form a stronger digimon (DNA Digivolution).  This can occur both naturally and through blessing evolution, though naturally occuring examples are very rare.

Armor evolution (Armor digivolution) is not included in this series, and instead is treated as standard evolution.  Armor forms are treated as Adult level forms, and can be attained through standard and slide evolutions, and even have evolutions of their own if there is a path to follow.

Some digimon have been associated with multiple stages of evolution.  Example:  Hououmon (Phoenixmon) has been treated as both a Perfect and Ultimate level digimon.  When this occurs in the series, the stage that they take will be noted and standardized at that level for all digimon of this type in the series.  So if Hououmon were to be treated as a Perfect level, then it will always be treated as such - thus, only coming from Adult level mons, and only evolving to Ultimate level mons.

Reformatting - specifically refers to the 'death' of a digimon.  When they die, they are not gone for good, but instead reformat.  They reform as an egg somewhere in the digital world.
Deletion - specifically refers to permanant death.  This is a concept that does exist in the digital world, but until the appearance of humans, was relegated to scary stories than to serious discussion.  Many digimon do not believe that such a thing exists, and that it's just something meant to scare orphans.
Orphan - refers to a digimon who has lost their memory after being reformatted.  Digimon have both a primary and secondary memory.  When they reformat, a boolean check (think:  Coin flip) is done for each.  If both are true (think: Heads), then memory is retained.  If only one is true, then the memory that stayed will overwrite the memory that showed up as false, thus keeing all the memories in tact. If both are false (think: tails), then memories are erased.  This includes everything, even a digimon's name.  Orphans either name themselves over time, or are given/told their name by someone else.
Gender - gender does exist in this series, but does not serve the same function as it does with humans.  Because digimon reformat instead of delete, there is no need for them to have children, and as such they're still incapable.  Instead, gender is purely aesthetic to them - a boolean value.  This value remains the same for a digimon throughout all of their stages of evolution, unless one stage only allows for one type of value (ex:  Angemon is always Male, LadyDevimon is always Female, etc).  If a digimon changes gender value due to an evolution's lock, but evolves further to a stage that has no gender lock, they return to their default value (Ex:  A male Tailmon becomes female when they evolve to Angewoman, but returns to being male if they evolve into Holydramon).

I hope this helps y'all understand some of the choices made with this series.  If y'all have any questions or comments, feel free to ask in the comments.  I'll try my best to explain them.

Just a heads up to anyone following - I'm having some really annoying connection issues right now, so I'm having a hard time updating.  Researching is taking forever as a result, and while I'll try to get it up by 10:30p CST, I may have to delay it until tomorrow.  I wish I could say it was just me dropping the ball here, but considering I had to refresh this page five or six times just to get it to load, blame AT&T for the delay.

Again, trying to get it up in time - if it's not up today, it will be up as soon as possible, and Wednesday's act should be unaffected.

Edit:  YES!  Made it!  Just barely, though.

And with that, the first episode is up in full.  For those of you who didn't catch it, the episode title is called "Another World".  I didn't think of it until I had the final act up, and it wouldn't fit into the title slot due to my structure format.  As such, from now on, check the description for the episode titles.  I'll be doing both a "last time on" and "Next time on" segment in first and third acts respectively, and will spend the second act on author commentary.

Anywho, Satoru and Chieko's journey has just begun with this.  They'll soon meet other people, and will even have their beliefs and convictions challenged in the coming months.  Though I'm still working out how I'm going to pace this, which obviously will be tricky what with 10 main kids and partner digimon, not to mention the others who they come across on their journey.  If you enjoyed the first episode, do look forward to the rest.  I'll work hard to keep them good.

Hey, remember five years ago when I was working on a digimon fanfic?  Of course not!  It was five freaking years ago!  Anywho, I've decided to actually get off my butt and work on it for serious.  I'll even be getting some art done for it if I'm able - perhaps light-novel style scenes, but most certainly character designs for the revamped profiles I'll be making.

Speaking of, remember those old profiles and all that old data?  Well, over the course of five years of flirting with the idea, stuff evolves and changes.  Absolutely none of that is valid anymore, but it does still serve as the basis for what I'm gonna do.  Of course, you're welcome to read the stuff to see how far I've come along since then, but considering most of the planning process took place in my head, there'll be a lot of leaps of logic that may not be so clear cut without actually spending five years in my head, and since that's out... well...

Anywho, the idea is to have Adventure-style characters, but with Tamers-style story pacing and character development.  This world has Adventure-style reincarnation (Called "Reformatting"), but it's not exactly the same.  You'll find out in this episode that there's a roughly 1 in 4 chance that a digimon will become orphaned by its memories when it becomes reformatted, essentially losing all sense of who they were before.  So while they may not have died (called "Deletion"), if the memories make the mon, they may very well have to us.

Occasionally, you'll see a worldbuilding post over here and I'll explain some of the stuff that goes on in the world, but for the most part I'll try to explain how my world works within the story itself.  The less you have to leave the story to understand stuff, the better, am I right?

I'll be updating it either thrice a week, or once a week, depending on life and the status of my creativity, but will be taking a break between story arcs.
